*Long sigh* oh Wiz, I can’t dislike you, but let’s be honest, this album is not your best work. I’ve spent the last couple of days listening to O.N.I.F.C. to give it some time to marinate, t0 make sense, but it doesn’t. 3 words “Show And Prove.” I just don’t understand how someone can rap like that and then a few albums/mixtapes later give us this…
O.N.I.F.C.: Let’s start by completely eliminating all of his singles from this discussion. They all suck, we know why they’re on the album and quite frankly if I let those couple of songs effect my overall rating Wiz would have failed indefinitely, not to mention that bullshit cover work he came up with. With that said, I give the album a C for Cool. Fuck that +/- bullshit, he gets a C.
Lyrically: mediocre as fuck. Wiz raps about the same shit all of the time. Yes, people love Kush & OJ but the lyrical content is the same on O.N.I.F.C., minus the occasional demeaning versus dedicated to women (guess we can thank Amber for that). We get it, you wake, bake, rap, bake, beach, bake, sex, bake…am I missing anything?
Features: again, disappointing. Don’t ever feature Akon again unless he’s singing about some gangsta shit. Seriously, we don’t want to hear it. Berner. I mean I guess that feature was straight; he didn’t really do or say much, but what really killed that feature was the obnoxious, random preacher rambling for the last 30 seconds of the track. Cam’ron. Well, you can’t tell me shit about Cam or dipset; I’m bird gang ’til I die so you know I fucked with that track. Courtney Noelle. She sounds like what Amber should sound like. Unfortunately for Amber, her voice is only compelling enough to land her bullshit features and a sleazy message interlude. Tuki Carter and Pharrell, dope. I liked that track. Lola Monroe. That’s what you came up with? Put her to the side with those wack ass singles. Juicy J. I was disappointed with both tracks that featured him. I guess I was hoping/expecting Taylor Allderdice tracks. My mistake. Chevy Woods. Underwhelming to say the least. “Wish I could bring that day back like a vertebrae”? Enough said.
Production: Cardo, Sledgren, I.D. Labs, Drumma Boy, JO A, Benny Blanco, Stargate, Pharrell Williams, Jim Jonsin, Nice Rec, will.i.am, Illangelo, DPAT, Danja. Together they’ve created a “background” album. A background album is one that you throw on in a car on a long road trip, at a cookout, coming back from a cookout, while your cleaning or during anytime in which little attention is paid to actual lyrical content. No need to skips songs (unless you hate the singles as much as I do) just let it play, light a jay, crack a brew, have a conversation and let the Only Nigga In First Class get you through that.
